In a long-standing tradition that spans over two decades, the prestigious Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, now rebranded as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, has once again unveiled its nominees for the highly anticipated annual event. This year’s ceremony promises to honor the dedication and creativity of Ghanaian artistes and music creators who have produced outstanding works between January 1 and December 31, 2023.
As the nominations were announced, conversations surrounding the award scheme and its selection process ignited, fueled by the presence of surprise exclusions. Notably absent from the list of nominees for the coveted Most Popular Song of the Year category are Amerado’s “Kwaku Ananse” and King Paluta’s “Yahitte,” leaving fans and industry insiders speculating about the criteria behind the decisions.
Among the unexpected omissions is Kwesi Amewuga, whose stellar contributions to the music scene in the past year shone brightly but did not secure a spot in the New Artiste of the Year category.
Reggae-Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy emerged as the frontrunner on the nominee list, securing the highest number of nominations across eight categories, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Music Video of the Year, among others.
As anticipation mounts for the upcoming awards ceremony scheduled for 1st June, the spotlight now shifts to the diverse array of nominees who have earned recognition for their exceptional talent and contributions to Ghanaian music.
