Running for the 8th year, the Kumasi Awards Night has come under heavy criticisms for calling out some categories most critics on social media term “weird” and a voting channel which is seemingly unfair.
The event aimed at motivating the youth of Kumasi in their various fields of work ranging from entertainment, music, entrepreneurship, among others has been vilified for it ‘unseriousness’ with category names including “Beard Gang Dude of The Year”, “Hustler of The Year”, “Official Lady of The Year” etc, and the credibility of receiving votes through a WhatsApp number.
Many suggest an award scheme running for these long years should be more effective on promoting the city based on much fruitful categories and credible nominations, nonetheless the initiative by TeamNoLongage is worth applauding and with broad consultation the idea could be repackaged for better delivery.
This years edition is on the 30th December, 2017 at the Vienna City Night Club with Emelia Brobbey and Papa Kumasi co-mcing, and performing artiste on the night include Flowking Stone, Sista Afia, Ypee, Amerado among others.
