Rebbel Ashes Urges Unified Global Promotion of Ghanaian Music

Belgium-based Ghanaian musician Rebbel Ashes has urged artists and industry stakeholders to work together to strengthen the global presence of Ghanaian music. He made the call during an interview on Real Talk with Sammy Flex on Sammy Flex TV.
Rebbel Ashes said international interest in African music continues to grow, but Ghana has not fully maximised the opportunity. He noted that many global audiences still view Africa as a single cultural space, adding that Nigerian artists have effectively used Afrobeats as a global entry point.
According to him, Ghana’s international strategy should not focus solely on highlife. He stressed the need to promote all locally practised genres, including hiplife, Afro-fusion and contemporary rap, through a coordinated industry effort.
Rebbel Ashes also referenced his recent single, What’s My Name (Yɛ Frɛ Me Sɛn) featuring BK Smooth, which blends hip hop influences with Ghanaian sounds. He said collective action remains key if Ghanaian music is to secure wider global recognition.
